Genesis Group - Kent County
To create and sustain a network of proactive Faith Communities who will be welcoming and supporting Church families for Registered Sex Offenders (RSO) once they have been released from Jail or Prison.
Who Are We?
The Genesis Group has brought together professionals in our community (pastors, probation and parole officers, lawyers, clinical psychologists and others directly working with sex offenders) with the express purpose of helping area Churches not only to be welcoming to the RSO but at the same time helping to keep the congregation safe.
How Do We Do This?
We will assist the Church through education and support to be proactive and not just reactive. This will be accomplished through education of the congregation and helping implement a safe Church policy that protects the Church body and at the same time displays to the RSO that he is welcome. We also do not minimize the importance of being sensitive to any victims of sexual crimes in the congregation. We believe the church can be a place of healing for both victim and perpetrator.
Why Do We Do This?
It can be a very complex issue for a Church to deal with when a Registered Sex Offender (RSO) is attending, or desires to attend a local congregation. On one hand, we want to show Christ's love and redemption to all people, especially the least of these, and on the other hand we have to consider the safety of our congregation.
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
